EcoVadis Validates HM Royal as Sustainable Chemical Distributor with Bronze Medal

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Corporate sustainability is no longer a trend but a responsibility of global businesses to create and deliver goods with an environmentally- and socially-conscious focus.  With a deep commitment to treating our employees, the planet, and society responsibly, HM Royal maintains a leadership role as a sustainable chemical distributor with business practices that incorporate social and environmental ethics.

More than keeping the status quo, we have implemented various sustainable measures over the years that impacted the environmental footprint including measuring and reducing carbon emissions at our facilities and within our fleet. We’ve also enhanced employee awareness of green habits.

We recognize that sustainability is a continuous improvement process, and we will continue to make improvements in our business to support our objectives and improve our performance. We strive to maintain a foremost position as a sustainable chemical distributor.

We’ve Achieved Bronze with EcoVadis

As part of our commitment to society, our people, and the environment, HM Royal completes an assessment of its business sustainability practices every year through EcoVadis, the global standard for rating operational sustainability commitments, practices, and performances. The assessment focuses on 21 different sustainability criteria across four core themes: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement.  More than 125,000 companies globally have been rated by EcoVadis.

In our latest rating, we earned a Bronze Medal, which places us in the top 35% globally. The badge provides significant validation for our company and our commitment to making incremental changes and building better habits that impact the planet’s health and those who live in it.

The EcoVadis bronze badge also recognizes us as a sustainable chemical distributor with strong practices and performance in using natural resources, treating staff and society well, and investing in the future.

Ecovadis rating system

EcoVadis’ business sustainability ratings are based on international sustainability standards such as the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, the International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, and the ISO 26000 standard. The ratings provide an evidenced-based analysis of performance and an actionable roadmap for continuous improvement.

In 2024, EcoVadis raised the bar for sustainability performance and updated benchmarks for its medals to align with the changing regulatory landscape and the evolving role of sustainability in business.  Eligibility criteria also were updated with minimum scores required in each of four themes — Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. With the increased engagement in sustainability, higher thresholds make medals harder to earn.   In January 2024, bronze now represents the top 35% instead of 50%.

Making Future Improvements

Using feedback from the EcoVadis assessment, HM Royal will identify risks and gain further understanding of where we can make improvements as a sustainable chemical distributor in making a bigger impact across the world.
